Get to know Ann McDowell Wagner

About Ann

Ann McDowell Wagner is a writer and international school leader who splits her time between Frederick, MD, where she works as an independent school head and Los Angeles, CA, where she soaks up SoCal sun on her DTLA rooftop. She holds a doctorate in Educational Leadership and has lived and worked in China, Cambodia, and Ethiopia. Ann is a recent graduate of the UCLA Extension Writers’ Program, which she started after she had too much post-doctoral energy. She also teaches in the Master of Education program for University of the People. Ann’s work has appeared in Humans of the World, The Mad River, Miracle Monocle, The Write In, and a Nat1 Anthology. She is also a 2024 Allegra Johnson Writing Prize nominee and a nominee for the 2024 James Kirkwood Prize in Creative Writing. Ann considers her ability to thrive on five hours of sleep her superpower.
